Maintenance according to DIN 31 051
Definition of the term “Maintenance”: Maintenance is the general term for inspection, service and repair. The term is therefore subdivided as follows:
MAINTENANCE, Totality of the measures for the preservation and restoration of the intended state as well as for the determination and assessment of the actual state of technical work equipment, systems and buildings.
Maintenance subdivided into:
Service: Measures for the preservation of the intended state of technical work equipment and systems for the avoidance of faults in the production procedure.
Example: lubricating, cleaning, adjusting
Inspection: Measures for the determination and assessment of the actual state of buildings, systems and technical work equipment for the avoidance of faults in the production procedure.
Example: checking, measuring, assessing
Repair: Measures for the restoration of the intended state of buildings, systems and technical work equipment with preparation or replacement of parts according to the results of inspections. Example: replacing, improving
